I work with businesses on longer term engagements:

My expertise is in using new big data sources, such as from social media, to understand customers and personalize messages and products. It is also in psychometrics, such as creating personality inventories and ability tests. Sometimes I combine the two, such as when I use social media data to automatically assess personality.

Consultancy Projects

2016

Created Predictive World, an online interactive experience to promote the release of Ubisoft's game, Watchdogs 2. Predictive World reveals what a powerful, all-seeing algorithm can predict about you based on your online footprint. It was used by more than 1 million people in less than a month.



London's Science Museum worked with me for their exhibit called 'Our Lives in Data.'

2015

Researched and published a white paper in collaboration with Barclays Bank and Edelman PR agency on the psychology of entrepreneurs. The paper was presented at a breakfast meeting in Davos by Barclays CEO Antony Jenkins.

Rolled out on-demand computer-adaptive testing system for BOSTES in New South Wales, Australia. It has halved the testing time and length for students taking RoSA literacy and numeracy tests.

Ran a study with Edelman PR agency on consumers' opinions about the use of Big Data.

Ran a 12-month project with startup CitizenMe, funded by InnovateUK, on predicting personality from text.

Consulted for TheTeam on creating a Determination Profiler for RBS. Within a month more than half of RBS employees used it even though it was optional - they said it was the most successful employee communication they'd ever used. It was later adapted for a major US airline.

Created a holiday recommendation app with Greyling PR agency for Hilton Hotels

2014

Creating targeted and tailored advertising campaigns with Greyling PR agency for Hilton Hotels.

Created proof of concept computer-adaptive testing system for BOSTES in New South Wales, Australia. It successfully halved the testing time and length for students taking RoSA literacy and numeracy tests.

Delivered research project for Amazon Payments on how people with different personalities respond to unbranded credit card payment pages.

Created an iPad game that also measures intelligence with startup JobCity

2013

Worked on a 12-month psychometric project for Thomas International, publishers of the Personal Profile Analysis personality test.

2012

Created Mirror, a digital exhibit for the National Media Museum in collaboration with creative agency Saint Y&R.

2011

Consultant for Microsoft Research in Cambridge, creating an app to explore online data collection for behavioral game theory, working with Thore Graepel in the machine learning group.

Workshops

I have given psychometrics workshops on Item Response Theory, Computer-Adaptive Testing, and how to use the Psychometrics Centre's open-source Concerto software. These can be between 1 day and 5 days depending upon requirements. I also teach 'Managing Big Data' to MBA and EMBA students, and in Executive Education. These workshops can also last between half a day and 5 days.

2016

Gave a day-long workshop on using Concerto v5 in Oslo University as part of a 3-day long workshop on IRT/CAT.

2015

Led a 5-day workshop on Computer-adaptive testing and Item Response Theory using Concerto in Indonesia for pln, the state electricity company (2015).

Taught on Level A/B psychometric test use course in Cambridge (2015).

Delivered 2-day Big Data in Business workshop for the University of Science and Technology in Beijing (2015).

Professional Qualifications

Level A and B certificates of competence in occupational testing (ability tests, and personality tests using the NEO-PI-R). Issued by the British Psychological Society.
